Our AI Policy

At its core, artificial intelligence, or AI, describes the use of computer algorithms to reach an intended result. It’s interesting to note that the beginnings of AI hark back to 1935, when British logician and computer pioneer Alan Mathison Turing created an abstract computing machine with limitless memory and scanning capabilities.

Fast forward nearly nine decades, and today we are surrounded by AI in our daily lives, from the way we drive, to the way companies market their goods and services to us, and how we search for information on the internet.

As the technology driving AI continues to improve, so does its ability to generate more narrowly defined results. In that regard, AI often shortens the time to find relevant information, or even prepare a document. These efficiencies translate into cost savings for corporations and for clients, who expect rapid and economical results.

AI is not infallible.

End-results can be inaccurate or not in line with a particular query. This is especially true in the legal industry where the outcome of a dispute can turn on highly specific facts and narrowly construed precedent. Our team recognizes these limitations, and enforce a strict policy against the use of purely AI generated work. In practice, this means that every piece of our work is ultimately the product of the person who signed it. So, while AI may be a useful tool to locate case law for example, the syllogisms that frame an argument or develop a policy come from our intelligent team, not intelligent algorithms.

It’s also about ethics.

Our approach to AI is consistent with the ethical rules governing the practice of law. Courts throughout the United States are increasingly weary of AI-generated filings and are willing to sanction lawyers who submit such documents. Our approach to client solutions and strategies remains human-generated, never automated, and derived from intimate knowledge of our clients and their specific issues. Of course we will continue to evaluate the most effective ways to integrate AI and smart technologies into our practice, while preserving our highest commitment to ethics and professionalism. At the same time, we will always endeavor to incorporate technologies that improve workflow, protect client information, and lead to more efficient results.

Our policy and promise to clients.

Clients choose us because we exhibit human qualities of compassion and responsiveness. We collaborate with clients to develop real life solutions which are qualities irreplaceable by robotic AI applications. We do not take our clients’ trust for granted and will never substitute our professional judgment with a machine-generated algorithm.
